Do you read Kindle eBooks on a Kindle eReader?

If you do you need to be aware of the Penguin eBooks and Kindle eReaders issue.

A few weeks ago we got a memo from OverDrive saying that the Penguin "USB ONLY" is a thing of the past. That turns out NOT to be the case. Overdrive and Amazon are still working the kinks out.

If you checkout a Penguin title, and try to transfer it, you will still get the "Must be transferred via USB AT THE FINAL STEP." Remember, in the eMedia Catalog the Penguin titles have the USB ONLY memo on the Format screen. This is true for titles we purchased BEFORE the announcement was sent out.  The new Penguin titles we have been purchasing do NOT have the message.  We are working with OverDrive to get the message on the New Penguin titles.

In the meantime, any Penguin title you checkout will need to be transfered via USB cable. (See eBook Downloading 101 for directions on how to do it.) If you are using a Kindle Fire we highly recommend you install and use the OverDrive Media Console app from the Amazon App store, which uses the ePUB format for eBooks rather than the Kindle format.

If you have any questions, please call us Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or contact us via email at ask@lvccld.org.
