Use the theater entrence in the west side of the building. This event will be PACKED, so get there early. Admission is free, but you'll need a wristband to get in. You can only get one wristband per person, so you can't pick one up for your buddy. They'll start giving out the wristbands at 6 pm. Everything will get going at 7 pm.
There will be three rooms - the actual theater (399 people) and the Large Conference Room and the Jewel Box Theater (both downstairs from the theater) to handle the overflow. The library will be feeding a video of Gaiman's speech into the two overflow rooms. Your wristband will determine which room you're in, so arrive early to get a spot in the theater.
Again, this will be PACKED, so don't try to keep an empty seat next to you. There are 399 wristbands for the theater. Someone WILL be sitting there!
No book signing tonight. Gaiman will be at the Fifth Street School, at 1 PM today (Thursday), to do actual signing. Just be aware that Gaiman has a very human hand that gets worn out. The signing is limited to one item that you bring in, and whatever you purchase on-site. The signing is only scheduled for about an hour and a half, so they expect they'll be able to get about 200 people up to Gaiman's signing table. Get there early.
On a vaguely related note, November is National Novel Writing Month (confusingly abbreviated NaNoWriMo. I keep thinking Nano what?). Neil Gaiman has been involved, and is a supporter. Here's NaNoWriMo's description of why they exist:
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.If you're an aspiring author, head over there and start writing!
