Cheaper by the Dozen - Introduction

When was the last time you read Cheaper by the Dozen?

I'm betting it's been a lot of years for most of you. (Please don't say "I saw the movie with Steve Martin..." The only thing that had in common with the book was the title.)

Quick, from your memory, what was this about?

Here's what I came up with: There was this man who had 12 kids, and he kept making them do things in strange ways. It was really funny!

My live-action book group read Making Time about a year ago. That is the biography of the Lillian Moller Gilbreth, Mom in Cheaper by the Dozen. Frank and Lillian Gilbreth were amazing people, and both were scientists of note. A lot of the way we do things today is based on their work.

But, yeah, the book is still really funny.

If you haven't picked up your copy, yet, go ahead and get one from the library and start reading. We'll be talking about background for a few days, and it won't spoil anything! If all you can get is the paperback with Steve Martin on the front, it's ok. The inside is the real book!
